Product information

  • All Childs Farm products are suitable for newborns and upwards other than our sun care which is for babies and upwards. In line with the NHS guidance, we recommend all babies under 6 months be kept out of the sun entirely and therefore do not recommend using our sunscreen products on babies under 6 months of age.
We recommend that you carry out a patch test 24 hours before using any product for the first time.

  • All Childs Farm products are dermatologist and paediatrician approved as suitable for sensitive skin and suitable for people who may be prone to eczema. However, Childs Farm products are not a medicine or a treatment for eczema.

  • Yes. Because of the gentle make-up of the products, many adults use Childs Farm products because they don’t want harsh chemicals on their skin.
We recommend that you carry out a patch test 24 hours before using any product for the first time.

  • We do not use palm oil directly as an ingredient in any of our products, however, we are aware that there are some ingredients used in our products that could be derived from palm oil.

We are currently working through a full audit of our whole supply chain to ensure that any ingredient that may be derived from palm oil is identified and ensure that it is Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil certified. Sustainability is something we take seriously as a company and work is on track to be completed very soon.

  • Absolutely not! We love animals. We are proud to have been awarded the Leaping Bunny certification, which confirms that, none of our ingredients or finished products are tested on animals. Our products are only ever tested on children and parents.

Childs Farm is also 100% compliant with the European Commission’s ‘Cosmetics Directive’ that prohibits animal testing on individual toiletries ingredients as well as finished products.

  • All our Childs Farm products are suitable for vegans with the exception of our strawberry and mint hair conditioner and our hair detangler, which both contain honey.

The majority of our range is registered with The Vegan society and as huge animal lovers we are proud to be certified by Cruelty Free International.

  • All our Childs Farm products are gluten-free with the exception of our hair conditioner and detangler, which both contain Hydrolysed Wheat Protein.

  • Childs Farm products are not organic, but contain naturally derived ingredients. Most Childs Farm products typically contain around 96% of Soil Association permitted ingredients. This means we know we’re using quality, robustly tested ingredients from the outset.
We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive brand, and to be 100% organic would have made our price point so high that our range would have been beyond the reach of many mums, dads and their children.

  • The Childs Farm bottles and lids are all recyclable and feature the recycling triangle on the bottom of our bottles. This means they can be simply rinsed out and placed in your recycle bin at home with your milk cartons. Our pumps can be recycled but this depends on the region so please check with your local council. Our plastic is currently made from some renewable sources and we will be increasing our recycled plastic content in our bottles in the coming year.

  • Sadly we cannot provide refills with the current available technology. This is due to the risk of contamination to the product, which we believe adds unacceptable risks when supplying products for babies and children.

  • With regards to the parfum in our products, parfum is a term used to describe any naturally derived or synthetically derived fragrance used in a product. Where possible we try to use natural essential oils to fragrance our products and will only use essential oils that can be put undiluted on to a babies skin without harming it.

However, there are occasions where we have to use synthetically derived fragrance, such as the strawberry in our strawberry and mint shampoo. This doesn’t mean that the synthetically derived fragrances are harmful it just means that, for example, our strawberry and mint shampoo doesn’t have actual strawberries in it.

  • Sometimes our pumps get a little loose in transit. Please try tightening the neck of the pump on the bottle and then pressing down on the pump and turning it for a couple or so turns and it should pop up! If this doesn’t work, please contact us!

  • All of our products are formulated to be extremely gentle. They are dermatologist and paediatrician approved for use on children and newborn babies, including those with sensitive skin and suitable for people who may be prone to eczema. However, as a common sense precaution, we always recommend a patch test be carried out at least 24 hours prior to first use of any new product. The best places to test are inside the upper arm and behind the ear – don’t patch test on skin that’s already irritated. Take a look at our video on the best way to patch test!

  • Due to recent high demand for our products, in particular, our baby moisturiser, we have had some difficulty finding enough of our usual “clear” coloured pumps.
In order to get as many bottles of our 250ml baby moisturiser available to you as quickly as possible, we have taken the decision to use some different coloured pumps – some may be white or even black.
If you are lucky enough to pick up one of our “limited edition” baby moisturisers, please don’t worry, the product inside is exactly the same as it has always been!

  • All our Childs Farm baby wipes are biodegradable meaning they will decompose over time, unlike other wipes which will never decompose. However, wipes should never be flushed down the loo.

  • Yes, it’s been tested by Penny Broderick and been certified as Cloth Nappy Friendly.

  • Both have the same ingredients, other than the fragrance. The Childs Farm baby moisturiser is only lightly fragranced whilst the Childs Farm moisturiser contains grapefruit and tea tree oil. We have also recently launched an unfragranced Childs Farm moisturiser for those that may have sensitivities to the essential oils in our grapefruit and tea tree moisturiser.

  • Staining from our products is rare, we do not use any artificial any artificial colouring or dies in any of our products. We would advise that whilst traveling with our products you store them in a waterproof bag and use the 250ml bottles without a pump. This will ensure that our products do not leak onto your clothing. However if you do experience stains from our products we would advise you wash the clothes in a biological wash and then a non-bio-logical wash, this should remove the stains.

  • The UVA star rating system was developed by Boots, it is not an EU requirement to have a UVA star rating. The UVA star rating system just measures the ratio of UVA protection vs. UVB protection, so if a product has a low SPF it may still have a high level of stars, not because it is providing lots of UVA protection, but because the ratio between the UVA and UVB protection is about the same.

Our UVA star rating according to the Boots system is 3 which a good level of protection and meets the EU requirements for UVA protection. As far as we know, all sunscreens that are suitable for sensitive skin and safe for people who may be prone to eczema, have achieved a 3* rating, as it has not been possible to achieve a 5* rating using ingredients that are suitable for sensitive skin and safe for people who may be prone to eczema.

It is important to look for a sunscreen that filters both UVA and UVB rays (broad spectrum), but particularly with a high SPF to block UVB rays that cause sunburn. Sunscreens with SPF 50 protect against 98% of UVB rays, whereas SPF 15 sunscreens only filters 93% of UVB rays.

  • A child may inadvertently drink one of our products and should this happen you will need to know what to do! We have spoken to the NHS in order to pass on their opinion about what you should do to give you peace of mind should this happen. Childs Farm products are considered to be non-toxic (non-poisonous).

Swallowing our products is usually not poisonous and patients will usually make a full recovery. Should your child swallow some product and have no adverse reaction (see below), you should give them small sips of water or milk. They should be absolutely fine, and it will be no problem in introducing food within an hour. You may take reassurance by calling NHS Non-emergency on 111 to discuss the condition of your child. However, if an allergic reaction occurs seek immediate medical help by calling 999.

    An allergic reaction would include:

    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhoea
    • Irritation to the mouth
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Abdominal pain
    • Loss of consciousness

Information to hand that will be helpful to the emergency services includes:

    • The patients’ age, weight and condition
    • The name of the product
    • The time it was swallowed
    • The amount swallowed

If there is a need to go to hospital, be sure to take the bottle that the child swallowed from so that the Health Care professionals can clearly see the ingredients.

  • Childs Farm is named after Joanna’s old farm which was owned and built by a family called Childs in 1745, so the apostrophe should actually be after the ‘s’.
However, having spoken to our retailers, we decided to leave the apostrophe out as it would cause untold problems with their systems!
